Overview

Datadog operates an official hosted MCP server that gives AI agents structured access to your observability data. Access is authorized through OAuth 2.0.

1. Configure Datadog

  1. In Datadog, click your avatar (your email address) in the bottom left of the screen and click Organization Settings, then select Preferences from the sidebar.
  2. Enable MCP Access. Also enable MCP Write Access if your agents need to create or modify dashboards, monitors, or notebooks — it’s off by default.
  3. Under MCP OAuth Redirect URLs, add your gateway’s OAuth callback URL — found in the Overview tab for your gateway in the Dtwo UI.

2. Add the MCP server to your gateway config

Go to your gateway in the Dtwo UI and open Configuration → Advanced. In the mcp_servers section add the following entry:

  - name: datadog
description: "Datadog official hosted MCP server."
    url: https://mcp.<DATADOG_SITE>/v1/mcp
    transport_type: streamablehttp
    authentication:
      type: oauth
      grant_type: authorization_code
      issuer: "https://mcp.<DATADOG_SITE>/v1/mcp"
      scopes:
        - mcp_all
      dcr_enabled: true
      redirect_uri: "<CALLBACK_URL>"

Replace the placeholder values:

  • <DATADOG_SITE> — your Datadog site, for example us5.datadoghq.com. You can find it in the top right corner of the Datadog UI.
  • <CALLBACK_URL> — your Dtwo gateway’s OAuth callback URL, found in the Overview tab for your gateway in the Dtwo UI.

3. Deploy and verify

Save the configuration and deploy the gateway.

Then, in your AI client, ask it to authorize Datadog via the gateway. This opens the Datadog sign-in and consent screen — sign in as the user whose role the agent should inherit, and approve the consent prompt. Once authorized, confirm the datadog-* tools appear — for example datadog-search_datadog_logs and datadog-search_datadog_monitors — and run a read-only call to make sure the connection and permissions work before enabling any write tools.

If the tools don’t appear after you authorize, refresh the tool list in your AI client — some clients don’t pick it up automatically.
